Join Me at Camp Lucky Star

This summer, I’m teaching three writing classes designed to help you slow down, look closely, and discover new ways of seeing the world through story. Whether you’re inspired by family memories, the beauty of nature, or the colors that shape our emotions, each class offers space for creativity, connection, and self-discovery.

Writing Our Stories: Family, Memory, and Meaning

Join me to learn more about the transformative power of storytelling. In this class, we’ll explore how writing about our families can help us discover more about ourselves. Students are asked to bring copies of photographs of family members who inspire them, and we’ll consider questions like:
– What lessons did this person teach you?
– What’s the best (or worst) advice you’ve ever received?
– What do you wish more people understood about you?

Through a guided writing process, we’ll journal and develop short pieces that respond to these questions and more. This class is perfect for anyone looking to dive deeper into self-discovery through creative reflection.

Writing in Nature: Observation and Imagination

Immerse yourself in nature to create a journal that becomes both inspiration and canvas. After a nature walk to observe and gather ideas, we’ll read selections from poets like Mary Oliver and Joy Harjo and explore how to use descriptive language and sensory imagery to deepen our understanding of the natural world—and ourselves.

Students may choose to develop one complete piece of writing or begin a collection to continue after camp. This class welcomes everyone—from beginners to experienced writers—interested in writing with confidence and curiosity. Join me to discover how connecting to the sights and sounds of our surroundings opens space for reflection and transformation.

Writing in Color: Seeing, Feeling, and Imagining

Jump into writing and engage your senses in a class sure to spark your creativity! From the joy of seeing a rainbow to the quiet beauty of a gray day, we all know that color—and the way we experience it—shapes how we feel and how we write.

In this class, we’ll play with color and brainstorm ideas for writing that surprise and delight. Blue can be as peaceful as a field of bluebonnets, as dangerous as a stormy sea, or as sweet as your grandmother’s blueberry cobbler. Learn how color impacts all five senses, as well as our emotions, and explore descriptive language to create vibrant, expressive writing. All levels of writers are invited to play and learn in this lighthearted creative session.
